The Pergamon Museum is one of the jewels of the vast museum complex on Berlin's Museum Island. As part of the "Museum Island Master Plan," the Pergamon Museum has been undergoing extensive renovations since 2013 and was completely closed to the public by the end of 2023. As part of the redevelopment, it will eventually be connected to other neighboring museums via an archaeological promenade. The north wing and the central part of the museum, including the Pergamon Hall, are scheduled to reopen in the spring of 2027. However, the southern part of the building, which features the Processional Way and the Ishtar Gate, will not be accessible until 2037.
Given that it will be at least 14 years (!) before the museum fully reopens, we made an effort to visit it before closing. Those who did not have that opportunity can look forward to a series of posts highlighting the Biblical treasures that form an invaluable part of the museum's vast collection.
Highlights of this Bible tour:
• Babylon and Nebuchadnezzar: See how Bible prophecies were fulfilled and learn why Jehovah chose a Babylonian king to deliver the profound message that supreme authority over rulership rests with Him alone.
• The Sumerians: Travel to Nimrod's city of Erech and discover what ancient Mesopotamian concepts spread after the confusion of languages at Babel.
• ... and much more (work in progress)!
