Numerous famous Biblical events took place in what is now Jordan: it was the home of Lot, Naomi and Ruth, and many others. Uriah died here at the hands of the Ammonites, and John the Baptist at the hands of Herod. Jesus performed his famous miracle of freeing a possessed man from a legion of demons, Moses died here with a view of the Promised Land, it was the territory of many of Israelites' neighbors, such as the Edomites, Ammonites, Moabites, and Amorites ... and that is just scratching the surface.
